While the Air Force Marathon, held annually the third Saturday in September, always features active aircraft, the History & Heritage Race Series will feature retired aircraft in order to begin to highlight all of the great aircraft that have shaped the U.S. Air Force’s air power throughout history!
There will be six aircraft featured each year with each aircraft revealed one at a time. The History & Heritage Race Series is a virtual race series which allows participants from all over the world to participate right from their home. You will have the option to choose to participate in the marathon, half marathon, 10K, or 5K. Click each race series below to learn more.
Event Details
Each History & Heritage Race Series participant will have the option to choose between the marathon, half marathon, 10K, and 5K.
All registered participants will receive a commemorative patch, an American made 3.5″ finisher’s medal with sublimated ribbon portraying the featured aircraft, a 3.5″ x 5″ information card on the featured aircraft and its history, and a custom downloadable finisher certificate. The registration price includes domestic shipping costs (additional costs apply for international shipping). Race items will be shipped 6-8 weeks after registration opens (i.e. If you register for the first race in the series on December 1st, we will ship your race packet to you toward the end of January. If you register for the first race in the series in March (pending availability), we will ship your race packet to you within two weeks of your registration.)
Virtual Event Guidelines
You may run, walk, or run/walk your full distance wherever you want – around your neighborhood, on a treadmill, or any course of your choosing. Be sure to track your race with Strava, Garmin, Fitbit, or another GPS-tracking app that will confirm your mileage and time. After your race, we encourage you to upload your results to the results page although this step is not required to receive your amenities.
A virtual race allows participants to complete the race anytime and anywhere. You may run or walk the race distance at your own pace. You choose your own race day and your own starting line, whether it's a treadmill, your neighborhood, or a park trail.
Once you register for the virtual event, simply complete your race distance any day and any where. After you finish, we encourage you to upload your finish time to the results page although this is not required in order to receive your amenities. We will then mail your commemorative patch and finisher's medal to the address you provided at registration.
You will choose your own route for the virtual event. We encourage you to map out your route prior to beginning your race to ensure you complete the entire distance.
You are going to be on the honor system for completing your race. However, we will be asking participants to upload their finish time so we can have a results page. If you would like to track your distance and time there are many apps you may download for free such as runcoach, Strava, and RunKeeper, Garmin, Fitbit, etc. It's helpful to map out a route ahead of time too.
You may submit your results here. While we do encourage you to submit your race results this step is not required in order to receive your finisher medal and commemorative patch.
As everyone will be on the honor system and submitting their own finish times, we will not be verifying results since they will be considered unofficial.
We will ship race packets which include a finisher's medal and commemorative patch to you free of charge 6-8 weeks after registration opens.
