Virtual Strides: Running Your Own Race

I completed the virtual AF Half-Marathon on 6 September 2020 running 13.1 miles straight down the measured Montour Trail near the Pittsburgh Airport.

I parked my car near mile-marker 21 and started at 0742 with two bottles of water in my hands and some Gu Gel to keep me going. Each half-mile has a marker which makes it easier to know where your position is and is more accurate than relying on GPS via Fitbit. The weather was cool in the morning which really helped! I felt pretty good overall and managed the hills well. I went past mile-13 (Mile Marker 8) on the trail and my wife Lynne was waiting for me at the 13.1 mile ‘finish line‘ with a time of 2:18:51 (10:35 pace) – she filmed me as I completed the virtual race.

I enjoyed participating in the Air Force Half-Marathon – I wore my 2016 AF Marathon shirt with the bib to show others what I was doing (at age 57). I just retired as an O-6 last year after a 38-year career and am happy to participate again in this wonderful event! Hopefully we’ll all be at WPAFB next year! (We hope so too, Ken!)

  • Such a motivational blog it is. Keep sharing such content to motivate others for workout. I wanted to have my own race but I am such a lazy person. I have been working as a freelancer at TaskShift since a year remotely and enjoy my work all the time trying new projects.
