U.S. Air Force Marathon continues to add new race elements

WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio - Air Force Marathon officials continue to add to the growing list of new elements for this year's Air Force 60 th Anniversary event to be held here Sept. 15. In response to runner requests, officials have added new five-year age category awards for the half-marathon race.
"There can be a big difference between a 40- and a 49-year-old running a race. We decided this year to space the awards five years apart, rather than ten. We can recognize more runners this way and it will add to the competitive elements of this year's half-marathon event," Molly Louden, USAF Marathon director, said.
All participants completing the race will receive a commemorative 60th Anniversary finisher's medal. Winners in each age category will also receive uniquely designed awards recognizing their achievements.
Other new race elements include continuous fly-bys, opening of the course to downtown Fairborn and hosting of the 5K race at Wright State University on Sept. 14.
